C.M. Have you seen an ENT and tried a proton pump inhibitor? I was coughing for literally 2 years and it turned out that it was caused by acid reflux. It was driving me insane and I felt like I was always choking on fluid. Finally, a new doctor suggested we try a PPI and it was gone within a few days. Worth asking your doctor about or going to a new doctor if your current one won't listen! I hope you get rid of it soon! :)

I find that putting a menthol rub like Vicks Vapor Rub on my throat instantly stops the tickle and the cough. I keep some next to my bed because it never fails that I'm already snug in bed when the tickle comes!

I found that "Fishermans Friend" (throat lozenge) does the trick for me. I have them by my bedside when needed. Seems it takes about 5-15 minutes before the tickle wakes me wake. First, I take 4-5 gulps of water and sometimes I don't need a lozenge. If that doesn't work, Fisherman's Friend always works. Sleep well, to all.

Glycerine (glycerol) is the most effective remedy by far, in my opinion. It's readily available from pharmacies. I take a teaspoon at night to relieve a persistent, dry tickle; my elderly mother finds it more effective mixed with an equal amount of water, leaving a small bottle of the mixture by her bed.

I've had the tickle for over a month, I cough soo much I tore muscles in my ribcage. Literally none of these suggestions ever helped me. Mucinex dm works sometimes and apple cider vinegar helps occasionally. I have recently tried chest rubs, specifically Tiger Balm works for me, rub over the lungs and ribs in combination of shooting shots of honey apple cider vinegar and 12 hr Mucinex dm with an antihistamine like benadryl. To rely on so many drugs is embarrassing but the combination works for me and ONLY works IF taken in combination, not separately. Jeremy M
