Thank you very much for such a great article on heavy cream substitutes. It takes information to make the right choices and now I know exactly what I will substitute for heavy cream. I have a theory that winners tend win no matter what the task. You totally delivered with this information and the images were great. I suspect you win a lot.

@ : tina hi. Yr photo is condensed milk. Evaporated milk is less thicker in consistency & less sugar too.

Hi! I'd tried to use coconut milk as alternative for heavy whipping cream for my home made Ice cream. :) And it was a success. My ice cream tastes like sorbetes :)

@ : Yeap and it's much healthier too. Just add a pinch of salt when you use coconut milk. It enhanced the flavour.

Can I use the Butter & Milk mixture to make caramel sauce? This is the recipe I want to use: ~1 Cup granulated sugar ~½ cup heavy cream ~2 tablespoons unsalted butter ~1 teaspoon salt The heavy cream is supposed to be mixed in after the sugar has melted into a golden amber color and removed from the heat. ???

That photo isn't evaporated milk. It's sweetened condensed milk. They are two totally different things.
